I had a meme assignment for Sociology class and it's our last assignment & the lecturer described it as "the best assignment of your lives"...
Well indeed I want that enjoyment for myself. Now the requirements stated we don't need to illustrate stuff form scratch but I decided to do it because it easily represents my personality which I can match it with my existing profile illustration (on the left).
My meme Intention?
Growing up’s been topsy-turvy for me. Especially being Autistic isn’t smooth sailing. Fortunately, I’m “civilised” & I improve mentally when maturing but it’s tough for me to catch up in life like studying & learning new things. I’m slow but with time I can achieve & accomplish something. There are things I'm not interested to do but I force myself to which I feel depressed. Especially when facing failure, looked down or misunderstood. I think the world now is too fast to judge & demanding all sorts of things. It’s hard to follow someone else’s “normal” & achieving perfection.
Mass Culture impacts society’s habits & mindsets. Not necessarily everyone buying or using a mass-marketed product from dominant corporations. Everyone in society follows the same behaviour, formulas & rules. Being different seems weird or rebellious to others. Personally, Mass Culture influences my dressing up, art style, perception & new insights in my interests. The result? I become colourful & knowledgeable thanks to Media exposure; being exposed to anime, transport videos, art tutorials / design trends / innovation videos, foreign news programmes & sports online mostly from social media outlets like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest & YouTube which inspires & entertains. It made me materialistic; indulging things I love like buying different types of pasta, collecting anime shirts & Swatch watches. I realised my interests & things to cherish that distracts me from negativity, keeping me motivated to my passions while shaping identity.
Having these thoughts also makes me an Otaku, a Sub-culture where people are fans of anime (When Otaku / オタク literally means “fan” of any interest in Japanese). I watch plenty of anime, cosplay (though not so often) & participate in Otaku conventions like AFA (Anime Festival Asia), Sakura Festival, Doujima. Best I did: going to Japan in winter to cosplay, visiting Akihabara & Den Den Town for shopping while looking through Anime merchandise like shirts, novels, illustrations & stuff like that.
I want my meme to reflect my colourful kitty self while striking the pain of reality. My friends call me a “Cat” since that’s how I illustrated myself & behave sometimes. Thinking back I’m just like a cat. I love eating fish (sashimi especially! >w
